Vangarde Shopping Park partners with new neighbours

Vangarde Shopping Park has kicked off an ongoing partnership with local charity York City Football Club (YCFC) Foundation.

YCFC Foundation is a charity which encourages young people to get involved in sports clubs and activities; with the overall aim of keeping a range of people active.

The Foundation’s vision is to support the local community by providing sport and physical activity, educational, social and healthy lifestyle opportunities and ensuring that its contributions have a realistic opportunity of making a positive impact on the local community.

The timing could not be more perfect as York City FC and YCFC Foundation is soon move into the brand-new stadium, which is set to open in Summer 2019.

Foundation Manager, Paula Stainton, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering up with Vangarde. The team at the shopping park are always working on projects and initiatives to give back to the local community and we believe both teams can work together to work on something really special.”

On Tuesday, December 18th, Vangarde will be donating toys to the York Hospital’s children’s ward. Players from York City Football Club will be at the ward, handing out toys to the children as part of Vangarde and the Foundation’s first initiative. This is an annual visit carried out by the team and is a highlight of the club’s festive season.

Vangarde is profoundly known for its charitable work over the past few years, the on-site Facilities Management team has raised more than £6,500 for local community initiatives and charities since November 2017, as well as spending hundreds of hours volunteering across York and North Yorkshire, proudly representing Vangarde Shopping Park wherever they go.

The shopping park team currently supports a number of local charities including the York Teaching Hospital Charity and York Against Cancer, just to name a few.

Deborah O’Donnell, centre manager at Vangarde Shopping Park, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with YCFC Foundation and we hope to strengthen our partnership with them throughout 2019.
“We hope to work together closely in the future to deliver different initiatives to benefit the local community and I am really excited to see where this partnership can go.”

Over the past few years Vangarde has maintained a strong relationship with York Against Cancer and raised thousands of pounds for the charity. Vangarde has also maintained an ongoing partnership with Kitchen for Everyone and has been an official drop-off point for a number of years.

On Saturday, December 8, Vangarde hosted a festive fundraiser aimed at raising money for York Teaching Hospital Charity. The likes of Micky, Minnie, Olaf and Elsa descended on the park to meet with little shoppers and the team raised over £235.

Deborah continued: “Vangarde is currently in partnership with a number of charitable organisations and we have a number of on-going projects to make a difference in the local community.
“We have recently won the 2018 Green Apple Award for best environmental practice, as well as a number of awards that celebrate the teams’ great work, which we are all extremely proud of.”
