Marks and Spencer staff recognised for high levels of customer service

The Marks and Spencer team at a York shopping destination have been commended for their customer service by customers and the company alike.

Staff at the Vangarde Shopping Park store have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help customers – with some being commended in the York Press for their efforts.

One such member is Clare Herridge, Manager of M&S Café, who came to the aid of a customer who poured a whole cup of hot coffee on themselves.

The customer wrote in to the York Press to thank Clare and the M&S Café team.

The customer, Elaine Nash, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff in the cafe at Marks & Spencer Vangarde Shopping Park for coming to my aid after I managed to spill a whole cup of hot coffee down the front of me.

“As I was dressed in white with an afternoon of shopping still to complete, this was not a good look. Swiftly, the manageress, Clare, took control and gave me back my dignity. Firstly, by ordering me a fresh coffee and then by appearing minutes later with a brand new top from the ladies department for me to change into.

“All this help and she would not let me pay a penny towards the coffee or the new top. Thank you Clare and M&S Vangarde for sorting me out and letting me get on with my day. What a star.”

Another member of staff, who has since been recognised by the company, is Sarah Parnaby. Sarah won the M&S North Yorkshire Service Award and nominated for the National M&S Service Awards in London.

Sarah helped a lady who had recently lost her husband and had thrown her heart and soul into helping to organise her sister’s wedding. When they did not have a bridesmaid’s dress in store for a little girl, Sarah worked tirelessly to liaise with different stores to find a dress in the size the lady needed, even going above and beyond when one dress did not fit perfectly to ensure the dress arrived on time and fitted perfectly. Sarah not only showed great customer service, but also showed a huge amount of care and compassion for a lady who was going through an emotional time in her life.

Another M&S team member who has been recognised for her customer service is Stacey Hewitson. Stacey, who works on the Foods Information Desk located in the M&S Foodhall, has received numerous letters and cards.

One customer said: “Marks & Spencer Vangarde has such helpful, friendly staff who are an asset to the store. One exceptional member on the groceries is Stacey Hewitson, she is a kind and hardworking member of staff and is so helpful to the customers.

“Thank you for good service at your store.”
