Marks and Spencer’s Lynne measures success through work with hospital
An employee at Vangarde Shopping Park’s Marks and Spencer store has been awarded a string of the company’s most prestigious customer service accolades after teaming up with a local Nuffield hospital to teach patients about breast awareness.
Lynne Lockwood, who worked as a palliative care nurse for more than 20 years before taking up a position with Marks and Spencer as a part-time bra fitter, visited the hospital to offer advice and carry out free fittings for staff and breast cancer patients.
Even though Lynne was not available for the official event at Nuffield, she took the time to visit the hospital for the entire day.
“I was actually on holiday the day of the event, but, as I didn’t have anything planned, I offered to go down for an hour or so with some stock and to chat to staff and patients,” explains Lynne. “The day was all about encouraging women to be more breast aware and the bra fitting service was a huge success, so much so that I ended up being there for the best part of the day.”
As a result, Lynne was nominated for, and subsequently won, Marks and Spencer’s monthly ‘Spotlight Recognition’ award, which is designed to reward exceptional customer service, before going on to scoop the company’s quarterly and annual titles too.
Lynne said: “I’m used to delivering a really personal service and just saw the day as an extension of my job – I didn’t think it would lead to all of this! It’s something I thoroughly enjoyed doing and would really like to be involved with again in the future.”
Tracy McLaughlin, manager at Vangarde’s Marks and Spencer store, said: “Outstanding customer service is something we look for in all of our employees, and Lynne has exceeded all expectations by giving up her free time to support a cause which is very close to the company – we’re absolutely delighted that her efforts have been recognised.”
Deb O’Donnell, centre manager for Vangarde Shopping Park, said: “Everyone at Vangarde Shopping Park remains focused on benefitting the community as much as we can.
“Lynne’s work with Nuffield is a fantastic example of going above and beyond the call of duty to benefit the community.
“She demonstrates the level of customer service and dedication that will keep visitors coming back again and again to the shopping park.”
