Frankie and Benny’s educates York’s schoolchildren with pizza masterclass
A popular restaurant based in York’s Vangarde Shopping Park has been giving schoolchildren a slice of enthusiasm for cooking by hosting a series of pizza masterclasses.
Frankie and Benny’s, which has continued to be a popular choice for Vangarde’s visitors since it opened in April 2014, invites various primary schools to come into the restaurant and learn how to make a pizza, giving the pupils an opportunity to make the pizza and then eat it once cooked.
Most recently, St Aelreds Primary School visited the restaurant, with more than 30 Year 5 children taking part.
Jo Mitchell, Frankie and Benny’s Vangarde General Manager, said: “Frankie and Benny’s remains to be focused on contributing as much as we can to give back to our local community, whether it is giving children a passion for cooking, or raising money for worthy causes such as Rays of Sunshine.
“The St Aelreds schoolchildren all had a fantastic time and our team loves working with the primary schools to give them a passion for cooking – it is a fundamental skill that all should learn.
“We are looking for more primary schools to get involved and take part in this fun initiative – we look forward to welcoming more schoolchildren in the future.”
Deb O’Donnell, Vangarde Shopping Park Centre Manager, said: “It is brilliant to see our stores doing their part to contribute towards the community wherever they can.
“Frankie and Benny’s initiative is a fantastic example of how stores and restaurants can use their skills to benefit others.
“Our focus continues to be on being an integral part of the York community, which provides more than just a shopping destination for our customers.”
